Common name: Azalea.
Voucher: Kostadinov 049, (URV) Brief description: (generic description) Deciduous shrubs to 2 m. Leaves are oblong or obovate, simple, alternate, entire. Flowers are perfect, showy, in terminal umbel-like racemes, rarely solitary; the stamens and stigma are often exserted. Fruits are a dehiscent capsule. Campus data: Very frequently cultivated shrubs everywhere on campus. Flowers are dense, and come in many different colors. The wild Azalea, Rhododendron periclymenoides, is also present on campus, as well as other Rhododendron species.
