Common name: Northern hackberry/sugarberry.
Voucher: Kostadinov 098, 149, (URV) Brief description: A shrub to a medium-sized monoecious or polygamous tree. Leaves are lance-ovate to broadly ovate or deltoid, oblique at base, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, sandy above and pubescent beneath, dark green above, paler beneath, margins serrate-toothed. Flowers are unisexual, the staminate in small clusters near the base of the twigs of the season, the pistillate -- solitary or paired from upper axils of the same twigs. Fruits are a dark red to black, subglobose, sweet drupe. Campus data: Rarely in the wild on campus, as small shrubs.
