Brief description: A shrub to a small tree. Leaves are deeply cordate, roundish, simple, alternate, entire, palmately veined, thick, glabrous, shining above, margins entire. There is a characteristic pulvinus (hinge) on the petiole where it attaches to the leaf blade.  Flowers are perfect, purplish-pink, in small clusters from the old wood. Fruits are narrow, acuminate pods. 

Campus data: Very rare in the wild on campus, not cultivated.  One patch of shrubs encountered.
