Brief description: A deciduous shrub to 3 m. Leaves are elliptic-ovate to oblong-lanceolate, simple, opposite, entire, pinnately veined, bright green or lustrous above, glabrous beneath, margins entire. Flowers are perfect, solitary, fragrant, yellow, coming in early spring before the leaves, on old wood. Fruits are a sharp three-angled nut .
Campus data: Very rare on campus. One cultivated shrub encountered.
