Common name: Flowering dogwood.

Brief description: A widely branched, small tree; the bark becoming deeply checked. Leaves are ovate to elliptic, simple, opposite, entire, pinnately veined, margins entire,  strigillose-hairy on both sides. Flowers are perfect, yellowish, about 20-30 in a cluster (reduced cymose inflorescence), with four white to pink obcordate bracts. Fruits are a red drupe, with a bilocular stone. 

Campus data: Very frequently cultivated around the campus, encountered in the wild as well.
