Common name: Witch-hazel.

Brief description: A large shrub to a small tree. Leaves are broadly obovate to obovate-oblong, oblique at the base, simple, alternate, entire, margins with several or many rounded teeth, pinnately veined, stellate beneath. Flowers are perfect and in short-peduncled axillary clusters. Fruits are a half-inferior, pubescent capsule. 

Campus data: Very rare on campus. Two planted bushes encountered east of the greenhouse.
