Common name: Cherry plum, Myrobalan plum.

Brief description: A small, sometimes thorny,  slender tree to 6 m; the bark is has characteristic horizontal lenticels. Leaves are dark purple, short-ovate to obovate, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, slightly pubescent on the veins beneath, margins finely serrate-toothed. The distal end of the petiole may have small glands.  Flowers are perfect, small, pinkish, single or in clusters of 2 or 3. Fruits are a 1-seeded, red or yellow drupe with fleshy exocarp and hard endocarp (stone).
