Brief description: A dioecious shrub to a small tree with slender and yellowish-brown to dark reddish-brown twigs and sharp-pointed buds. Leaves are pendulous, lance-linear or narrowly lanceolate, simple, alternate, entire, deep green above, paler beneath, margins finely serrulate. Stipules are well-developed, semicordate, serrulate, deciduous. Flowers are unisexual, in catkins with the leaves. Fruits are an ovoid-conic, glabrous, 2-valved capsule. 

Campus data: Rare in the wild on campus. Not cultivated.
