Common name: Winged elm.

Brief description: A small tree; the young twigs often developing two opposite cork wings. Leaves are oblong to obovate, smaller than the leaves of U. americana and U. rubra, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, nearly glabrous above, pubescent beneath margins doubly serrate-toothed.  Flowers are perfect, in short racemes. Fruits are a villous samara with narrow wings and incurved beaks . 

Campus data: Moderately frequent in the wild on campus, primarily as shrubs along the roads and paths. Not cultivated.
