Brief description: A highly variable shrub to 1.5 m. Leaves are thin, oblong or elliptic to obovate, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, hairy to glabrous, margins entire. Flowers are perfect, greenish to purple, in racemes or panicles on special branches, subtened by small, leafy bracts. The style and stamens are exserted. Fruits are a yellowish or greenish to blue, fleshy berry.
