Process
Skills the teacher needs to make this lesson beneficial:
The lesson can be completed in about the time it would take to teach three lessons. Students need this amount of time in order to be able to come up with their dance, do their research, and write their paragraphs. Before students begin this WebQuest, they will need to be divided into groups of 4-5 students each.
When making groups, be sure to consider each students strengths and weaknesses. Some students have better oral skills, some better reading skills, some better writing skills, etc. Try to make the groups balanced with a variety of skills in each.
The WebQuest process is outlined in detail on the Student Process page.
IMPORTANT: It can be difficult to teach about creation in public schools because any discussion of religion is illegal. Therefore, make it clear to students that there are many different opinions on how the world was created. There are scientific opinions, and there are opinions that stem from people of different cultures. Emphasize that this is more of a way to learn about different cultures, not a debate on how the world was actually created. Also keep the emphasis on the importance of creative writing, dance, and research. It will also be important to discuss the differences between, stories, myths and legend before beginning the WebQuest.
