The Process
The WebQuest will help you
understand the events and major players in the French Revolution. You will work
in groups of 5 students each researching one of these roles: bourgeoisie/ aristocracy
peasants, artists, philosophers, and the church.
Step: 1 Begin your
WebQuest with doing background information about the revolution, the three estates,
and the social, political, and economic unrest in France at this time. Complete
the Chart Worksheet (PDF). The following
links will help you do this. These links are also useful for specific roles!
Step 2: Then each of
you will have to decide on which role you would like to take. You can find information
on each of these roles and the effects they had on the revolution and French society
by looking at the web sites listed for each role.
Peasants

Bourgeoisie/ Aristocracy

Philosophers

Artists/writers
The Church
NOTE: When looking at the web
sites make sure you look at what the evaluation rubric says, so you know what
is needed in the debate and the paper. Do not spend time looking at unnecessary
information like the decapitation of Louis XVI. Spend time looking at information
that describes each of the roles, and the views that the held during the revolution.
Step 3: Once you have
collected your research create an outline in notecard form to prepare your argument
for the debate. This part of the assignment is important because it will help
you organize your thoughts and evidence for your argument in the debate. THIS
IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT WILL HELP YOU ARGUE MORE EFFECIENTLY AND THEREFORE RECEIVE
A BETTER GRADE.
Step 4: You will
come together as a group and use individual research to create a paper. The
group will come up with an original thesis and write a 10-12 page paper. This
will be graded based on the thesis, grammar, historical accuracy, and content.
This is further explained in the evaluation section.
