The Task

The principal for the high school in your school district often looks at past examples to help in the decision-making process. However, a busy schedule prevents her from doing the research of past examples that he needs to decide a course of action for the recent school violence hysteria. That is why she has asked you and your fellow school board members to help her. As school board members given the responsibility of helping the principal, you have several important tasks. You must research examples of hysteria from American history, and then use your research to propose an appropriate course of action for the principal. Each school board member has tasks to complete before meeting to develop the course of action proposal.

2. Document any important information that you encounter during your research.

4. Prepare to share your research with your fellow school board members in order to propose an appropriate course of action.

Once each school board member has completed his or her tasks, meet as a group and discuss an appropriate course of action for the principal. This course of action must include summaries of the examples of hysteria from America’s history, an analysis of the responses to each example of hysteria, a proposal for the principal’s course of action, and why you think this course of action is appropriate.
