The Task

Your task is to complete the mysterious letter from one of the following perspectives: settler, Native American, or slave. Your letter must include the following information:

• How did you arrive in Jamestown?
• Why did you come to Jamestown?
• What is your life like in Jamestown?

In addition, include any other information that you discover about your role.

Your teacher has also given you an assignment to complete after your visit to Jamestown. As a group, you have been instructed to recreate a map of the Jamestown settlement. Use your imagination and be creative! On the map, write two sentences stating facts that you discovered about each group: settlers, Native Americans, and slaves. Be prepared to share your map and letters with the class in a 3-5 minute group presentation. Your teacher will provide poster board for your map. Extra credit will be rewarded if you bring in a prop or dress up as the character you represent.
