The Revolutionary War was a turning point in the history of our country. The American Revolution not only created our country, but it also defined our society, our way of life and our ideals. In 1767, England passed the Townsend Act that taxed goods such as paper, tea, glass and paints. In December of 1773, the colonists revolted and boarded the English ships in the Boston harbor. They dumped all of the tea into the harbor. Virginians George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry played major roles during this period of our country's history.
