Basic Guidelines

First, each expert must write his/her own page of the report stating his/her expert opinion and giving several reasons and examples for supporting this opinion.

Use the pro/con lists you developed to give you reasons for supporting or not supporting ecotourism.

After everyone has written their individual parts, your group will work together combining all 4 individual reports to form ONE big paper stating your official opinion.

PROOFREAD the report after you put all the opinions together in an essay. (Your teacher can help you with this if you have trouble).

The paper should read smoothly and connect each expert's opinion by using sentences that connect each expert to the next.

Rules for a Good Paper

Have a short but descriptive title.

Example of Bad Title:  "Mark goes to the Store but Gets Lost on the Way"
Example of Good Title: "Mark's Adventure to the Store"

Tell them what you're going to talk about (introduction).
Tell them the information (the official opinion with supporting  details)
Tell them what you told them (summary paragraph).

To Write a Good Paragraph

• Introduce the topic to your reader. What are you going to talk about?
  
• Then state your fact (your own expert opinion).
  
• Then say WHY you feel the way you do.
  
• Is it because something is good/bad for the rainforest?
  
• Is it because you predict it could be good/bad?
  
• Is it because such a situation has happened before?
  
• Give at least 4 or 5 supporting reasons why. Specific examples ALWAYS make paper better!

To Put the Whole Paper Together

• Introduction:  This is the first paragraph. What is the topic of this paper? Why are you writing it?  What are you going to talk about in the paper?  What is your group opinion? What different experts contributed to this opinion?
  
• Body: There should be between four and eight paragraphs in the body of your paper. Write one or two paragraphs for each expert, stating why they agree with the group opinion.  Include information about the research you did on your expert topic, and specifically why you feel ecotourism would help or harm your topic (plants, animals, people, etc.).
  
• Conclusion:  This is the last paragraph.  Here you should restate the main ideas in your paper.  What types of experts gave their opinions? What was the group opinion? What was  the purpose of the paper?

Remember!!! You are writing a paper to CONVINCE the tribe chief and his council that you have come up with the BEST decision to help them.
