Coarse
terrestrial herb; leaves alternate, clustered rosette-like at
base of plant, leathery, sword-like, with finely serrate margin
and sharp-pointed tip; inflorescence a cone-like aggregate arising
from center of rosette, topped with a crown of small leaves.
Specimen at left photographed at Norfolk Botanical Garden, Norfolk, VA. The plant at Kiuic was found in the former orchard, persisting after several decades of neglect.
