Herbaceous
annual; upper leaves alternate, usually twice ternately compound;
leaf segments more or less ovate, base cuneate, margin toothed,
apex acuminate; heads borne on long pedicels; involucre 2-seriate;
florets yellow; fruits cylindrical, topped by pappus segments
some of which project upwards, most of which project horizontally.
