Somewhat weedy monocot herb, creeping; leaves lanceolate, attached to the stem via a leaf sheath; flowers clustered in axils of reduced (bracteal) leaves at the ends of stems, apetalous.

This plant is sometimes cultivated in hanging baskets or as a groundcover.
