Herb with milky sap; stems pubescent, prostrate, often red; leaves opposite, simple, broadly ovate, margin toothed; flowers minute, clustered into cup-like cyathia; cyathia borne in the leaf axils; cyathial appendages petal-like, 4, white to pink, each with a minute gland at the base; capsules pubescent, emerging laterally through the cyathium wall.
