Liana,
woody towards the base; leaves alternate, simple, nearly round
but with cordate base and notched (retuse) apex; dioecious; flowers
small, greenish, in the axils of reduced leaves; fruits small
red drupes.

Standley (1931) reports that the plant is employed as a diuretic and to treat a variety of genito-urinary tract disorders; also, to treat snake bites. Listed as an important source of pollen and/or nectar for bees (Souza Novello 1981).
