Woody liana climbing via leaf-opposed tendrils; young stems and petioles green; leaves alternate, ovate to somewhat cordate, base cuneate to truncate to cordate, margin shallowly toothed, apex acute; inflorescence a compound cyme arising directly opposite a leaf; inflorescence axes green; mature fruit dark purple to black.
