Dioscorea alata L. Winged yam, "makal" (this name generally applied to aroids, which this yam resembles)

Twining liana; stems winged (alate), the wings often with reddish tinge; leaves opposite (alternate on young plants, as illustrated here), simple, ovate, base deeply cordate (the lobes often overlapping), margin entire, apex acute to apiculate; flowers and fruits not seen.

Native to tropical Asia; specimen at Kiuic found in the abandoned orchard, presumably persisting from intentionally cultivated plants.
