Jacquinia aurantiaca Aiton

Small tree; bark longitudinally furrowed; leaves alternate, entire, obovate, base acute to cuneate, margin entire, apex spine-tipped; flowers orange, corollas stiff; fruit globose, surface wrinkled.

Specimens at Kaxil Kiuic have not yet been observed in flower or fruit, so the identification to species is somewhat conjectural.

Standley (1930) reports that the stiff flowers were employed in ancient times as decorations for Maya temples.
