As indicated by the specific epithet, this species is native to India and southeast Asia. Mangos are much planted in orchards throughout the region, at least one individual persists in the old orchard at the historic settlement area of Kiuic. In addition to the edible fruits, the flowers provide pollen and nectar for bees (Souza Novello 1981, Suarez Molina 1981).
