scandent shrub; stems with short recurved prickles; leaves alternate,
twice pinnately compound, even pinnate; leaflets about 8, of unequal
size and shape, varying with position in the leaf; inflorescence
a dense head of powderpuff-like flowers, several heads per node;
flowers purple-pink.
