Trichilia americana (Sesse & Moc.) T. D. Penn.; choben che'

Tree with exfoliating bark; leaves alternate, once-pinnately compound, odd-pinnate, the pinnae opposite; inflorescence an axillary thyrse; flowers small, white.

There are several species of Trichilia in the region. Presence of exfoliating bark is the basis for identification of the material depicted here as T. americana.

Various species of the genus Trichilia are listed as an important source of pollen and/or nectar for bees (Souza Novello 1981).
