C-MoR Project Philosophy
To provide students and faculty with another mode of learning
and teaching - a visual channel
- "a picture is worth a thousand words"
- an animation is worth a hundred pictures
To entice the curious and/or advanced student to learn more
without overwhelming the weaker and/or less curious
- indeed we hope the C-MoR Modules will stimulate the natural
curiosity that all students have
Flexible Use
- as easily customizable as possible by faculty who want to use
the modules
- different emphases possible depending on choice of order
- to provide each module in a form that can be used both as a
lecture aid for use in class by the instructor and also as a
tutorial for deeper exploration by the student
Focus each module on Concepts so that they can be used in a
variety of places in the typical chemistry curriculum
Layered with different levels of material/theory/detail
- so that they can be used to present a topic in several courses
of differing level within a curriculum
- to help generate coherence within the curriculum
- to help students see the fundamental connections/dependencies
that exist between courses and ideas
- the hope is to help tie courses and concepts together
Visual images and animations designed to be memorable and
supportive of teaching goals
- to help both the teacher and the student by delivering images
that are hard to present accurately either in words or in
two-dimensional drawings (on a chalkboard or overhead), or that
are hard for the student to accurately record
- to allow presentations to be more accurate, less simplified,
and more illustrative of the best theories
Web-based as much as possible, for maximum access by
students
To provide the materials to the educational community in a
manner that reduces the barrier as much as possible for use by
interested individuals
- flexibility/customizability
- non-linear (i.e., random/instant) access to any place within a
module
- broad and flexible licensing and dissemination approach
