Common name: Japanese maple.
Voucher: Kostadinov 105, (URV) Brief description: A shrub to a small tree. Leaves are opposite, simple, palmately veined, deeply 5-9-lobed, glabrous; the lobes are doubly serrate. Flowers are perfect, small, in glabrous erect corymbs. Fruits are a double samara with one-seeded winged mericarp, the wings widely divergent. Campus data: Relatively infrequently cultivated. About a dozen individuals encountered. A. palmatum cv 'Atropurpureum' is the cultivar with deeply purple leaves shown here.
