Common name: Japanese barberry.

Brief description: A densely and divaricately branched shrub to 2 m tall; with simple spines (modified primary leaves). Leaves are obovate to spatulate, simple, alternate, entire, margins entire. Flowers are perfect, yellow, solitary or in umbel-like clusters. Fruits are red berries. 

Campus data: Occasionally cultivated as a dense shrub around paths in various places around the campus.
