Brief description: A glabrous evergreen shrub or small tree. Leaves are leathery, ovate to elliptic, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, very shining and dark green above, margins broadly dentate. Flowers are perfect, showy, big, creamy white to pink or red, with a multiple corolla. Fruits are a woody dehiscent capsule. 

Campus data: Frequently cultivated on campus.  Mature bushes are up to 3 m tall and of varying creamy white to pink corolla.
