Brief description: A loose straggling evergreen shrub with the young branches pubescent. Leaves are smaller than those of C. japonica, leathery, elliptic to oblong-ovate, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, very shining and dark green and hairy on the midrib above, margins bluntly pointed. Flowers are perfect, smaller than those of C. japonica, white. Fruits are a woody dehiscent capsule. 

Campus data: Very rarely cultivated on campus.  One individual encountered.
