Voucher: Kostadinov 005, 018, 090, (URV) Brief description: A thorny hardwooded shrub. Leaves are elliptic-ovate to somewhat obovate, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, margins serrate-toothed. The stipules are characteristically large. Flowers are perfect, white to red depending on the cultivar, developing before the foliage (mid- to late March). Fruits are a pome with a closed top. Campus data: Cultivated occasionally on campus.
