Brief description: An erect shrub to 3 m with a cross-chambered pith. Leaves are oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate, simple, opposite, entire, pinnately veined, margins entire to irregularly, distally serrate-toothed. Flowers are perfect, the corolla tube campanulate and bright greenish-yellow. Fruits are a bilocular, many-seeded, broadly ovoid capsule. 

Campus data: Occasionally cultivated on campus for its bright yellow, numerous flowers, emerging before the leaves.
