Common name: Apple.

Brief description: (generic) A small, much-branched tree. Leaves are simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, more or less pubescent, margins acutely serrate-toothed. Flowers are perfect, white to pink, in simple clusters. Fruits are an edible pome, lacking stone- or grit-cells. 

Campus data: Occasionally cultivated on campus. About a dozen individuals encountered.  At least two different species/varieties (both crab apples) are present, and both are depicted here.  The picture to the left is showing the fruits of one of them in late June.
