Brief description: (generic description)  Evergreen shrubs to 2 m. Leaves are oblong or obovate, simple, alternate, entire. The leaves of this Rhododendron are much bigger than the Azalea leaves, and they are evergreen. Flowers are perfect, showy,  in terminal umbel-like racemes, rarely solitary; the stamens and stigma are often exserted. Fruits are a dehiscent capsule. 

Campus data: Occasionally cultivated shrubs everywhere on campus. Flowers are big and showy, coming in different color varieties.
