return to: checklist; keys, key 3; family Euphorbiaceae subfamily Acalyphoideae
Weedy herb with simple, alternate, ovate, toothed leaves. Staminate flowers minute, in axillary spikes. Pistillate flowers enclosed in bracts, forming cylindrical, soft-fuzzy, catkin-like spikes at stem tips. With magnification, glandular trichomes are present on most shoot organs. Similar to Acalypha arvensis in which pistillate bracts are somewhat less hairy and glandular trichomes restricted to the pistillate inflorescence.
