Herb, sometimes becoming woody towards the base; nodes somewhat swollen; leaves opposite, simple, elliptic, base obtuse, margin notched, apex rounded, with scattered linear dark markings; inflorescence a head (capitulum); involucre a single series of smooth bracts with scattered linear dark markings; florets all of the disk type.
