Ruellia nudiflora (Engelm. & A. Gray) Urban;

Herb; leaves opposite, simple, ovate, base somewhat decurrent on the petiole, margin toothed, apex acute; inflorescence a terminal panicle; corolla broadly funnel-like with 5 lobes, violet; fruit a capsule with elastically dispersed seeds. (Image at left photographed at Hacienda Tabi.)

The leaves are generally much reduced in the upper portion of the stem, often giving the plant a somewhat rosulate habit. However, in moist and/or shady situations, the stems can be relatively leafy.
