Coarse herb; stems and leaves with stellate pubescence and large prickles; leaves alternate, simple, ovate, base cordate, margin shallowly lobed, apex rounded; cymes lateral, few-flowered; corolla white; fruit a berry covered with soft hairs.

According to Standley (1930), infusions of the fruit are used to treat sore throat and crushed fruits are used as a poultice.
