Adenomera, Hydrolaetare, Leptodactylus, Lithodytes Bibliography

Recent studies confirm a robust clade consisting of the genera Adenomera, Hydrolaetare, Leptodactylus, and Lithodytes.  Therefore we are adding citations for species of Hydrolaetare and for Lithodytes lineatus.

The criterion for inclusion of an article in the bibliography is mention at the species (or subspecies) level for members of the genera Adenomera, Hydrolaetare, Leptodactylus, and Lithodytes.  Articles that mention only generic names are not included in the bibliography. The bibliography was started in 1967 by Ron Heyer as a combination of cards and species sheets. Miriam Heyer has entered the citations from the papers of the manual-form bibliography into EndNote®, a database bibliography program, and continues research to obtain and include all other articles.

Citations in the EndNote® file retain Adenomera and Leptodactylus  and Lithodytes as separate entities.  The changes proposed by Frost et al. in the publication The Amphibian Tree of Life have not been incorporated at the present time.

Species names as they appear in the publication are listed in the keywords section. The current understanding of those names, if different from the usage in the publication, is indicated in the notes section. The label section contains tracking information on the completeness of the citations. “No bibliography” means that the literature cited section of the paper has yet to be examined for possible citations. “Unverified” indicates the citation has not been proofed by either M. or R. Heyer (whichever did not enter the information). “Incomplete” denotes that information is missing, typically in the keyword and note fields. At this time, there are no "No bibliography" or "unverified" items and few "incomplete" entries.

Searching the bibliography: Within theEndNote® program, any term can be searched for in any EndNote® field, as well as in the keywords field.  We use keywords to characterize the information that pertains to the species included in this bibliography.  For example, a paper describing a new species of hylid frog that mentions that Leptodactylus podicipinus occurs in the same locality and habitat as the new hylid would have keywords of "podicipinus," "locality records," "habitat," "Bolivia."  These keywords would usually differ from the keywords in the publication itself.  The keywords in this bibliography include valid scientific names; synonyms of valid names;  misspelled scientific names; countries; and terms usually associated with keywords.  Four versions of the keywords may help your searches:  (1) a complete list in text file format and three subsets of keywords, (2) valid species list, (3) country list, and (4) topical keyword list in rtf file formats.

The bibliography is updated at least semi-annually on this website.

We would appreciate your bringing to our attention any references we have not yet included. Please send such citations to heyerr@si.edu.

Acknowledgments: This bibliography has been possible only with the support of
